Regional journalism plays a very positive role in solving regional
issues. It is therefore essential to redress the grievances of regional
journalists and help them in acquiring the latest tools of the trade
like innovative skills. The University of Gujrat (UOG) in collaboration
with the Press Club Gujrat is ready to leave no stone unturned in honing
the skills of journalists. Soon we will hold an annual conference to
brainstorm solutions for the difficulties and problems being faced by
the working journalists.
These views were expressed by Prof Dr Mohammad Nizamuddin Vice Chancellor UOG while addressing the concluding session of the workshop on ‘Innovative Skills in journalism’ organized for the local journalists of Gujrat. Mr Waseem Ashraf Butt president Gujrat Press Club in his address highly appreciated the visionary leadership of Dr Nizamuddin, in cementing academia-community linkages by serving the professional cum academic needs of the society at large. Senior journalists Mr Mohammad Younis Saqi termed the conduct of skill disseminating workshop as an historic achievement. Prominent column writer Basharat Lodhi said that UOG is the pride of Gujrat by virtue of its efficiency and productivity. This workshop is definitely going to usher in a radical change in our cultural makeup.

Mr Maqbool Ilahi Butt opined that true, dedicated and ideologically charged journalism is the need of the day. Mr Zaheer Mirza stated that the atmosphere and ambience of UOG was really excellent Mr Liaqat Qadri was of the view that UOG has beautifully effected an intellectual cum Cultural Revolution in our society. Moreover this university can extend its influence by extending help professional guidance, to overseas Pakistanis and investing their limitless resources in productive businesses and entrepreneurship.

On this occasion Chief Executives of ‘News Alert Agency’ Mr Farhan Mirza and Asim Raza presented shields for excellent performance to Vice Chancellor Dr Nizamuddin, Director Media & Publications Sheikh Abdul Rashid, President Gujrat Press Club Mr Waseem Ashraf Butt. At the end 70 participants were awarded certificates by Dr Nizamuddin VC, Mr Wajahat Masood Senior Journalist and Column writer and Mr Imran Masood Former Education Minister. A large number of participants including Director Evening Program Mushtaq Ahmed Bhatti, Director Faheem Malik, Dr Zahid Yousaf, Ms Azra Ghani, Syed Shabeer Hussain Shah, Yasser Ali, Faisal Iqbal, Chaudhary Akhtar Warraich and Professor Humayun Ghauri participated in the workshop.
