AVATAR screened by Media Arts Society of UOG

Gujrat: A movie session was arranged by Media Arts Society at the University of Gujrat (UOG). The movie session was conducted not only to entertain the students but also to burgeon up their critical faculties. The movie screened before the spectators was AVATAR. The session lasted from 10:30 am to 1:00 pm in the media hall of P Block. Head Department of Mass Communication Dr. ZahidYousaf participated in the session. He appreciated the efforts of MonemShehzad Coordinator, Umair Sultan President and Mahmood Ahmed Vice President of the society for developing excellent cooperation amongst their team. The society professed to arrange many more such creative cum artistic programs, so as to provide healthy entertainment to the students along with nurturing their aesthetic sensibilities and critical faculties.

Voice Message 2012 Competition

Gujrat: ‘Voice Message 2012 Competition, organized by collaborative efforts of Odieum Art Society (OAS) University of Gujrat (UOG) and SangiFoundati (SF) at Hafiz Hayat Campus of UOG has been won by Muaz Ahmed from Mass Communication department of UOG. Further competitions were held with the coordination of UOG campus Radio 106.06 on ‘Forced Marriages’ and ‘Women, share in Legacy’ in S-7 Science Block. The event was arranged by Administrator SADA Prof GhaffarMohiyuddin. Ms. Madeeha Butt was the guest of honour, whereas Professor Syed ShabbirHussain Shah was the Chief Guest. Dr. Mohammad Nawaz,SobiaZahid and Madeeha Butt were the judges. According to the results announced Mr. Maaz Ahmed won the first position, whereas Sidra Arif fetched the second position and Qasim Ali got the third position. The Chief Guest Syed ShabbirHussain Shah distributed prizes to the winners and certificates to the participants.

World Earth Day Celebrated At UOG

We must leave no stone unturned in keeping our environment green. It is an age old tradition of the East to live in peace and conformity with our environment. Unfortunately certain evil practices in the present age are responsible for the degradation of our environment. We must struggle against these evil practices and work tooth and nail to save our environment. These ideas were expressed by Prof Dr. Muhammad Faheem Malik Director faculty of Sciences who was the Chief guest at a one day Symposium on ‘World Earth Day’ at University of Gujrat (UOG) Hafiz Hayat.

This symposium was organized by the UOG Green Society of the Department of Environmental Sciences. The theme of Year 2012 ‘Mobilize the Earth’ was the focus of the symposium. In her welcome address to the first session of the symposium Miss SairaMunawar Coordinator Dept. of Environmental Sciences welcomed all and sundry and intimated an overview of the program. Students Mr. AdilSikandar and Mr. Sheikh SiddiqueShahid from BS 4^th Semester discussed general problems affecting Earth. Miss Ayesha Siddiqua Lecturer Department of Environmental Sciences made a very effective prersentation on ‘Environmental Issues and their Impact on Planet Earth.’ . Documentaries were screened to mobilize the youth. Mr. Ali Shan BS 6^th Semester and Nauman Ashraf (BS 4^th Semester) presented their research on disadvantages of plastic bags and the introduction of Reusable Eco bags. At the end the panelists Prof Dr.Faheem Malik, Dr. Muhammad Danish, Dr. Khizar Hayat, Dr. Abdul MajidSandhu, Miss Ayesha Siddiqua and Mr. Raza – e Mustafa answered different questions of the audience. The second session was focused on the subtheme ‘Get rid of Plastic Bags’. Dr. Freshullah Director Social Sciences was the Chief Guest. Ms. KholaSikandar Lecturer Department of Environmental Sciences presented authentic solution of plastic bags in her “Alternates of polythene Bags”. Dr. UmerRasheed Assistant Professor Department of Biotechnology made a very interesting lecture on ‘Biodegradation of Polythen Bags’. Besides a large number of students, and faculty, Dr. Iftikhar Head Department of Mathematics, Dr. Omer Rasheed (Department of Biochemistry) Miss SairaMunawar and Miss KhoulaSikandar from Department of Environmental Sciences participated in the seminar.

CS & IT Department of UOG win laurels in Inter University Competitions

Gujrat: Computer Science (CS) and IT departments of the University of Gujrat (UOG) have won laurels in the Inter University national competition held at FAST Islambad and University of Engineering and Technology (UET)  Lahore. 

In the Business Plan Competitions at FAST Islamabad, 15 teams participated in all . C.S & IT team of UOG consisting of UmerFawad and UffanIdrees won the first prize. In the Programming Competition 26 teams participated; out which UOG team consisting of Mohammad Tahir and Tasawar Nawaz Came on the 4^th position whereas a UOG team consisting of Faisal AhsanRaza and Mohammad Mubashar was able to achieve fifth position. Similarly in Poster Design Competition. C.S evening program students of UOG Fatima Jinnah College Campus IhtishamNasir and Mohammad Arslan won third position. 

In National Games competition held at UET Lahore CS & IT teams of UOG won the first prize. In the Robotics Competition Ali Ijaz with his four team mates bagged the third prize.  CS and IT Director Dr. MudassarIqbal, Head of CS Department, NaumanRiazChaudhary, Head of IT department Mr. MubasharHussaincongratulated, Mr. Naveed Anwar Butt and high achievers in the contests. Dr. Mudassar expressed his excitement by declaring that CS & IT were the real face of the University and under the supervision of teachers these departments have always achieved success in different competitions and upheld the prestige of UOG.
